Journey in Human Landscape Broken Hill

Broken Hill 2025

"Journey in Human Landscape Broken Hill" is the seventh location in an ongoing exploration by Kathryn Hill, Robyn Zerna - Russell, Barbara Palmer, and Ray Meandering. The South Australian Artists examine the profound relationship between humanity and the land we inhabit.

This body of work, reflects on how cultural activity reshapes the environment, leaving lasting marks on both the physical and emotional landscape. Inspired by their time spent in Broken Hill, each artist offers a unique visual response to the region’s stunning and complex beauty, shaped by both nature and human history.

Their journey led them across diverse terrains, arid plains, low scrub, city streets, mining structures, and historical sites, as well as the Menindee Lakes and DarlingBaaka River system. The work bridges the past and present, honouring the history of the region while embracing the modern-day connections between the natural, industrial and the human landscape.

These works capture the essence of Broken Hill’s story, intertwining the scars left by industry and nature with the resilience and spirit of the people who call it home.
